Visit to Sauraha

Visit to Sauraha

It was a cold morning in the month of Mangsir when we started our journey from Kathmandu to Sauraha. We took a tourist bus to get there and reached to our hotel in late afternoon. The weather over there was cool and welcoming. The trip has been exciting to us. For me, it was the first time I have ever been to terai and the topographical distribution left me enthralled. And for my husband, because of his photography passion, it has been an opportunity to capture the exotic beauty of Sauraha again.     After having lunch, we got to meet our tour guide. He gave a brief introduction about himself and the activities to be carried out the following and the next day. We were planned to visit sunset viewpoint at the evening. This gave us time to take rest for few hours. In the evening at around 4:30 pm we headed towards our destination. On the way we could see few tourists and as per information provided by our guide the no of tourists had declined that month. We were also provided information about the national park, the wildlife species and the local community. The lovely view of sunset and its reflection on the river was so spectacular that it made us fall completely in love with Sauraha. We could also see some crocodiles and gharials basking on riverbanks. There was also Sauraha beach restaurant for the visitor to relax and enjoy the view. We also got to know that camping is also done at night in the beach of river.     Later in the night...
A Journey in Lower Mustang: Jomsom – Kagbeni – Muktinath

A Journey in Lower Mustang: Jomsom – Kagbeni – Muktinath

“Jomsomai bazaar maa 12 baje hawa sarara”, a famous song from the Pokahreli Band Nepathya, describes the main market place in Jomsom (2700m) – the district headquarters of Mustang. Jomsom indeed is a place to be in the mornings until noon. The street vendors are all out in the center of the city, selling their best products. Fruits and vegetables (among them the famous Mustangi apples), the classic Marpha (apple brandy), hand-made handicrafts and hundreds of other what-nots are carefully placed on the stalls, glittering on the gentle sun and fresh breeze, and waiting to be bought. Yak hearders are leading their furry animals through the main street and out of the town for food, their bells producing a melodious Himalayan symphony. As headquarters of the district and a fairly visited place, Jomsom has everything – an airport, a hospital, excellent hotels (both more luxurious and budget options), restaurants serving delicious food for all tastes and last but not least spectacular views of Mount Nilgiri, for which you have a feeling that it is just above the town. Jomsom is also a starting point for many trekking trails, among which the one to the ancient village of Kagbeni and Muktinath. Mustang is a fascinating area with a landscape very similar to the one of Tibet, one of a highaltitude desert. However, unlike in Tibet where travelers have to go through a lot of restrictions and travel only in tourist groups, individual travelers are welcomed in Mustang. Mustang has remained an autonomous kingdom even after the fall of the monarchy in Nepal, partly thanks to its seclusion from the rest of the...
Adventure of a Life Time, the Rolwaling Valley!

Adventure of a Life Time, the Rolwaling Valley!

Rolwaling, a Himalayan Valley; lies northeast of Dolakha District and west of the Everest Khumbu Region. It is the East-West valley below the Mount Gaurishanker (7145m). The valley is surrounded by steep cliffs and giant snow peaks. Bordering with Tibet , it is an ethnic Himalayan region. Only a handful trekkers reach the valley each year. Thus it is an isolated and a culturally diverse area. The route is truly adventurous, its magnificent forests and views are among best in Nepal. We took the Kathmandu-Charikot-Singati-Gongar Khola to reach this beautiful valley. After the walk from Gongarkhola to Chet-Chet and the hike through steep steps, we arrive at Simigaon. Simigaon is situated at an altitude of 2100m and offers the beautiful rhododendron forests and closeup views of Mt. Gaurishanker. After Simigaon, the walk turns into a thrilling experience as you pass through the dense forest. There are numerous waterfalls inside the forest and a lot of wooden bridges to cross them. The trail continues to Surmuche –Calche – Dongang(2800m). These three stops on the way offer home stay for travelers. But, it’s rare to find another trekking group. Its better to stay the night at Dongang  and start fresh in the morning on the way to Beding. The walk from Dongang to Beding takes about 7 hours and there are no houses or people on the way. The path is very steep and the hike continues towards uphill terrains from here. A small village called Nuware comes an hour before reaching Beding.  Sherpas live in three villages around here. The Sherpas live a tough and interesting nomadic life. In Winter they live at Neware. In the beginning of March till April, they move to Beding. And after...
Taplejung, The Wow Fareast!

Taplejung, The Wow Fareast!

Travelling is not just an action of moving hither and thither, it’s really being free, being into the wild and discovering yourself. This travel story is the result of the times I spent during my engineering studies, my journey to ‘the Far East-land’, TAPLEJUNG. It is famous for it’s natural resources and landscapes. Fungling Baazar  is the gateway to the Taplejung, and is the headquarter of Taplejung.  It rests on the slopes of magnificent Mahabharat Lekha (Hills) and is famous for the production of valuable herb, ‘Alaichi’ or Cardamom. I swear you will be overwhelmed by the beauty of this amazing place. Siddi Dada, Suketar are the major attractions of this area. While travelling to Siddi Dada, you pass through ‘Alaichi’ Plantations and river-streams which soothe your breathe. You can enjoy ‘Tongba’ and ‘Bhote’ Tea which are a great companion in the cold along with many other authentic items like  here with a chilly weather and the cool breezes. After Fungling Bazar, you could go to the most holy and sacred place in the East, ‘PATHIVARA’. Every year, many people visit Pathibhara for the religious purposes.  It’s said that your wish is fulfilled when you offer your prayers in the Pathibhara Devi Temple. It is about  5 hours Trek. You can feel the religious vibes on your body while trekking towards the Sacred Location. Small stops to rest with few houses and local Teahouses can be found on the way. The road is rough with a tough uphill walk. Walk for a while, rest a while, enjoy the hike. Through the wilderness, the silence in the woods always encourage you to go onwards. You can find plenty of Chautaras(Rest Stops, made by the locals in memory of their deceased family members or loved ones)...
Landruk Trek

Landruk Trek

“Where Next?” Pokhara is beautiful not just because of what’s inside, but also because of all the Places surrounding Pokhara. I would recommend a place that follows few kilometres away from the center, following the Baglung Highway. If you are in Pokhara for a short period of time and can’t resist exploring around, “Trip to Landruk” is an ideal one for you. It offers you the best view of Annapurna range, sunrise and sunset, traditional Gurung culture, and on top of all that, a peace of mind, away from the city hustle bustle.  The best part about this trip; it takes only 48 hours of your life to gain a memory of a lifetime. With Mardi Himal and Ghandruk nearby, other trails are very likely to make you cling into the place. The Trip kick-starts with short drive to Phedi from Pokhara which takes about an hour. Another hour of steep climbing is followed by less steep walk through the forest and the stone paved stairs until you reach the top of ridge. Continue walking for another 30 minutes and you step into a dirt road. Nobody’s road is paved perfectly, the dirt road leads you to a magnificent scenery. Dhampus village is the first village to welcome you with Annapurna, Machhapuchhre (Mt. Fishtail) along with the Dhaulagiri range. You can call it a day , stay in Dhampus , roam around, enjoy the hospitality Gurung community has to offer or you can continue your walk(trek) up to Australian Base Camp or Pothana and rest your boots for the day. Next morning, first thing you’ll witness is golden beams of light on your face; the best Sunrise with the backdrop of Annapurna range. The walk to Landruk continues with Rhododendron...

The Khaptad national park is a protected area in the far western region, Nepal that was established in 1984. Stretching over the four districts of Bajhang, Bajura, Achham and Doti, it covers an area of 225 square kilometers.
