Taplejung, The Wow Fareast!

Travelling is not just an action of moving hither and thither, it’s really being free, being into the wild and discovering yourself. This travel story is the result of the times I spent during my engineering studies, my journey to ‘the Far East-land’, TAPLEJUNG. It is famous for it’s natural resources and landscapes. Fungling Baazar  is the gateway to the Taplejung, and is the headquarter of Taplejung.  It rests on the slopes of magnificent Mahabharat Lekha (Hills) and is famous for the production of valuable herb, ‘Alaichi’ or Cardamom.

I swear you will be overwhelmed by the beauty of this amazing place. Siddi Dada, Suketar are the major attractions of this area. While travelling to Siddi Dada, you pass through ‘Alaichi’ Plantations and river-streams which soothe your breathe.

You can enjoy ‘Tongba’ and ‘Bhote’ Tea which are a great companion in the cold along with many other authentic items like  here with a chilly weather and the cool breezes.

After Fungling Bazar, you could go to the most holy and sacred place in the East, ‘PATHIVARA’. Every year, many people visit Pathibhara for the religious purposes.  It’s said that your wish is fulfilled when you offer your prayers in the Pathibhara Devi Temple. It is about  5 hours Trek. You can feel the religious vibes on your body while trekking towards the Sacred Location.

Small stops to rest with few houses and local Teahouses can be found on the way. The road is rough with a tough uphill walk. Walk for a while, rest a while, enjoy the hike. Through the wilderness, the silence in the woods always encourage you to go onwards. You can find plenty of Chautaras(Rest Stops, made by the locals in memory of their deceased family members or loved ones) in the way to rest and relax.

Once you reach the Pathivara Temple, you will see a lot of bells hanging. These are in fact the wishes of people hanging in the form of a bell. The journey stops, the destination is here. Come to this place, feel it yourselves, see it yourselves and explore it by yourselves. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

The Prayer Bells and the Haning Wishes! The sound from ringing these bells are considered very holy!
